Our

History

Curriculum

Our history curriculum aims to inspire children’s curiosity about life in the past, to help them to ask questions, think critically and to give them a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world.

Progression in History

Please click on the link below to view our history progression map. In addition to our progression in skills, we have mapped out the key knowledge in each topic and revisit prior learning regularly so that it becomes embedded and is retained.

Key Knowledge

In history, children are taught both core, substantive knowledge (facts and information which lay the foundations for depth of understanding) and disciplinary knowledge (methods used by historians to find out about the past). Where possible, this is enquiry-led. Please click on the link below to view the core substantive and disciplinary knowledge taught in history in each topic.
