Y4 Friday Blog - 13/06/25
Date: 11th Jun 2025 @ 3:31pm
Welcome to the Year 4 Blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. E.g. "Why do you think the character is unhappy?"
Please note that reading books will be changed when completed. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. Thank you in advance.
Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame.
Please note that our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 19th June
Spellings
Geography Fact of the Week!
Mrs. Macdonald (our Geography boffin) has had a great idea! To make sure our knowledge of the world is solid, each class will be spotlighting a different country in Europe.
For this term, we have the country Slovenia

REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA: FACTS

Our learning this week in Year 4
Maths
We are back into the murky world of fractions, finding equivilent fractions, finding a fraction of an amount, converting between fractions and decimals...
Fractions aren't easy, but once we remembered the rule, 'Whatever you do to the numerator, you must also do to the denominator' it became nice and easy.
Next week, we will be continuing to find a faction of an amount, using bar models, and applying division skills, to solve questions!
English
It's the final unit of the year, and what a way to finish!
Mrs. Crosby had already prepared me for this new book, saying it was an amazing mix of culture, diversity and suspense... She wasn't wrong! Journey to Jo'burg has got off to a wonderful start, and we can't wait to find out what happens to Naledi and Tiro next!
So far, we have inferred what the city of Johannesburg must have looked like in the eyes of two young children from a small African village. We have continued with inference, using the text to help us understand how Naledi and Tiro must have felt... Scared? Anxious? Overwhelmed? Or most probably, a mixture of them all!
Times Tables - MTC
A huge congratulations to Y4, who completed their MTC this week.
25 times tables, completely random, needing to be answered in 6 seconds. I honestly could not be prouder! Each person give it 100% and showed so much resilience... What else would you expect from Euxton CofE!
Have a fantastic weekend!
