RE
‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,’ Philippians 4:13
Ms Lucas and Mrs Obertelli lead RE throughout school

In our church school, we aim for RE provision to be of the highest standard and we are always striving for excellence, reflecting the school’s distinctive Christian character. All that is achieved in Religious Education is influenced by our vision statement. Our children are made aware, through sensitive teaching, of Christianity and the culture and religions of others. This broadens their understanding and does not confine them to a narrow and insular world. RE (and our Christian Values) lie at the heart of our curriculum.

Knowledge
The School has adopted the Blackburn Diocesan Religious Education Syllabus (Questful RE), which reflects the National Framework for RE, as the basis of all that is taught throughout the school. The majority of lesson time is devoted to Christianity whilst the remaining time is spent in studying Judaism, Islam and other faiths. However RE is not solely confined to one lesson. Rather, it permeates throughout the school with opportunities arising in other areas of the curriculum.

Assessment
The BDof E Ladder of Expectation and Achievement together with Big Questions and end of unit expected outcomes are used for formative, ongoing assessment. Monitoring includes: Work sampling of work based on a common theme throughout school, class floorbooks, assessment tasks and work from current units. Regular discussions with teachers, questioning children, Governor discussions.
RE focus for this year
Create an Euxton model of assessment (5 checkpoints) which embeds retrieval practices, questioning and supports a robust monitoring and assessment cycle.
