Y6 Friday blog - 2.10.26
Date: 1st Oct 2026 @ 2:15pm

Welcome to the Year 6 Blog!
Important Information
Please remember that homework is due back on a Friday. Over the last couple of weeks, there has been a very high percentage of Y6 who have not brought it back. If it is completed before Friday, that is fine! Bring it in early and leave it in a bag or a tray until it is marked on the Friday.

Our learning this week in Year 6
Maths - Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division
Long multiplication and long division!
This is a huge topic, as, in the end of year SATs, long multiplication and division can sometimes total around 30 marks. It is absolutely vital to ensure that we have full understanding of this, and then the Maths SATs will become so much easier!
For long multiplication, we have been multiplying three and four-digit numbers by two-digit numbers, making sure we line up each digit carefully and remember the importance of the place value of each number.
For chunking division, we break a division calculation into more manageable chunks. We use known multiples of the divisor to gradually work out how many times it will go into the number. This helps us to solve larger division calculations without trying to do everything in one step.
Both methods can look tricky at first, and take up a ridiculous amount of space in our books, but with careful working and plenty of practice, we are becoming much more confident!
English

Our independent writing is now planned, written, edited, improved and polished!
Using our original modelled writing alongside the actual text, dictionaries, thesauruses and, most importantly, each other, we have each managed to craft something quite extraordinary!
The vocabulary, sentence structures and range of Year 6 writing skills on show are absolutely fantastic. It has been brilliant to see everyone taking ownership of their ideas and working hard to make their writing as effective as possible.
We are incredibly proud of the finished pieces!

Safeguarding - morning routine
If you are dropping off your child at the classroom door / KS2 entrance door and need to pass a message on to a member of staff please do so by speaking to the staff member who monitors the door in the morning. If you need to enter school for any other reason, adults can only enter the school building via the main school entrance and seek assistance from the school office team. If you are attending a meeting with a member of staff, you must sign in at the front desk as a visitor and have an ID lanyard.
Safeguarding - home time routine
At the end of each day, Y6 will line up on the playground football pitch. Each child will be dismissed individually, only when a member of staff has seen the adult who is collecting. If they are signed up for OSC, the children will need to be collected from the front office, so OSC can sign in, and sign out, the children they are expecting.
If you need to speak with the class teacher at the end of the day, please allow them to dismiss the class first.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school and children safe.
Safety in PE
We would like to remind all parents that for the safety of all children and following guidance from Chorley SSP, jewellery is not to be worn during PE. This includes earrings, bracelets and watches. All children will be asked to remove their jewellery at the start of every PE lesson. This will ensure their own safety during the lesson and the safety of others. If a child is unable to take out their own earrings, adults in school will not be able to do it for them. This will mean they will have to take another role in the lesson such as observing, coaching or officiating.
For this reason, if your child is not confident taking out earrings, please do not put them in on our PE days. This year, our PE lessons are on Tuesday and Friday, however we may also have extra lessons on other days throughout the year.
Thank you for your support in keeping our children safe.
Have a fantastic weekend!
