Year 1 Friday Blog - 23rd May
Date: 22nd May 2026 @ 5:24pm

Dear parents,
Welcome back to the Year 1 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, our weekly spellings, reminders and lots more!
Every Friday, the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework.
Moving to online homework has allowed us to become a more eco friendly school.

Reading books will continue to be changed on a Thursday. Please read both books and ask questions about them.
Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.

The children will have the opportunity to change their library books each Thursday. Please spend time sharing these stories at home and asking about their choices.
To help prepare the children for the Phonics Screening Check in June we will be sending home an additional piece of phonics homework each week. Please complete this with your child and return it the following Thursday. I have added a sound mat to the files section for additional support. Some children may receive some additional words over the next few week for extra practice.Thank you for your support with this.
Spellings
There are no spellings over the half term but please continue to read your reading books and practise the real and alien words. I have added another list in the files section.
This week the children have finished writing their innovated stories about No-Bot. We will be sharing them with another class when we return after half term.
Mental Health Week
We did some mindfulness yoga in the hall before joining in with the Big Joe Wicks Mental Health Workout.

RE
Last week we went to visit Rev Jo at our chruch to learn more about Baptism. We all attended the Baptism of 'Luke Benjamin' who was baptised by Rev Harry. We then spent some time looking at the features of church.
