Year 1 Friday Blog - 7th November
Date: 2nd Nov 2025 @ 10:02am

Dear parents,
Welcome to the Year 1 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, our weekly spellings, reminders and lots more!

Reading
Reading books have been sent home in bags tonight along with a personalised sheet of sounds for your child to practise.
Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night and fill in their reading record.
Question prompts can be found in reading books, on coloured book marks and in reading records. Asking questions improves key comprehension skills. If your child is struggling to read a word, encourage them to use their phonics fingers to segment and sound it out. Can they spot any digraphs? (2 letters, 1 sound). Once they have segmented the word, ask them to blend it together.
Please note that reading books will be changed on a Tuesday and two books will be given to each child to read for the week . Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.
Spellings
English
We have continued to learn about our story Harry the Happy Mouse.
This week we have written a thank you letter to Harry from the frog he helped.
We used our new vocabulary words:
delighted glad relieved lucky pleased
Maths
In Maths we have finished our learning on length and mass. This week we have weighing objects using the balance scales.

Geography
In Geography we consolidated our learning on continents and oceans by working in a group to make a globe.

Next Thursday is our trip to the Lowry. Children will not need to bring their book bags or water bottles to school that day.
Children can wear their own trousers/shorts with their school polo shirt, school jumper and appropriate footwear.
Children in Need
Friday 14th November is Children in Need day and our school council have decided that this year, we will be doing a cake sale!
If you are able to donate some cakes, they can be brought in to school on Thursday and Friday and our school council will be selling them after school on Friday. If you would like to purchase a cake to support Children in Need, please bring some money at the end of the day on Friday.
Safety in PE
End of Day Routine
- Children will only be allowed to go home with adults listed on the safeguarding form, unless school has been contacted to state otherwise.
- Children will be dismissed one at a time. Please let the adult on the gate know who you are picking up and they will then call the child.
- We kindly request that all children are dismissed prior to teachers/ Teaching Assistants being approached by parents.
- Should any child need to come back into the classroom, we will allow them back into the room after all of the children have been dismissed.
