Reports

The annual reports have been sent home today in your child's bag. Please return the acknowledgement form to your child's teacher as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for your support.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of your child's report, a drop-in session will be held in the Year 2 classroom on Wednesday 15th July from 3.30pm.

Moving-Up Morning

The children all enjoyed their transition morning in the Year 3 classroom with their new teacher, Miss Simm. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to become familiar with their new learning environment and take part in a range of engaging activities. The children settled in quickly, showed great enthusiasm, and approached the experience with confidence. We are very proud of how well they embraced this important step and are sure they will continue to thrive as they begin their Year 3 journey.

Reading Books

Please ensure that all reading books and library books are returned to school by Monday 13th July so that they can be sorted and organised ready for September. New reading books will then be distributed at the start of the new school year.

Challenge

Find out facts about about castles through the ages. Perhaps you would like to make a leaflet or a poster about Clitheroe Castle.

In English this week, we have been learning about making predictions and understanding characters in our class story. We used clues from the text to make inferences about the characters and events. We completed a 'think, feel, say' sheet to explore what they might be thinking and feeling.

We also learnt how to use interesting adjectives to describe characters. Using the adjectives we collected together, we described Tomas, thinking carefully about both his personality and his appearance.

To finish the week, we practised sequencing the story by mapping out the main events in the correct order, helping us to retell the story with confidence.

Clitheroe Castle Trip

We all had a wonderful time on our class visit to Clitheroe Castle Museum on Wednesday. The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a range of exciting activities. They made their own motte-and-bailey castle replicas, learned how to use a sword (using foam swords) and listened to fascinating stories about dragons and knights. It was a fantastic day and the children were engaged and enthusiastic throughout.

Please note that reading books will now be changed on a Wednesday. Two books are given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.

Please ask your child not to bring their own reading books in from home. They are given the opprtunity to select a reading book from our class bookcase. Thank you for your support.

Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence. Please try to read with your child every night.

The children will have the opportunity to change their library books each Tuesday. Please spend time sharing these stories at home and asking about their choices.

End of Day Routine

• Children will only be allowed to go home with adults listed on the safeguarding form, unless school has been contacted to state otherwise. ​
• Children will be dismissed one at a time. Please let the adult on the door know who you are picking up and they will then call the child.
• We kindly request that all children are dismissed prior to teachers/ Teaching Assistants being approached by parents. ​
• Should any child need to come back into the classroom, we will allow them back into the room after all of the children have been dismissed.​
