This week in Maths, we have been continuing to develop our understanding of number and place value. We have been learning that the position of a digit in a number tells us its value, and we have been using practical equipment to help us understand this concept.

We have been working with Base 10 equipment, using ones and tens to build and represent different numbers. A key part of our learning has been understanding that 10 ones can be exchanged for 1 ten. The children have physically grouped ten ones together and exchanged them for a ten stick, helping them to understand the important relationship between ones and tens.

In Computing lessons, we have been learning all about online safety and how we can stay safe and make sensible choices when using technology.

We used the Purple Mash programme to explore the idea of avatars. The children took part in an engaging avatar quiz where they looked carefully at different avatars and thought about the people who might have created them.

We discussed how an avatar is a picture or character chosen to represent someone online but it does not necessarily show what that person really looks like. 

The children learned that we cannot always tell who someone really is from their online picture or profile. This led to important discussions about why we should not make assumptions about people online and why it is important to be careful when communicating with others.

Reading books will be changed on a Wednesday. Two books will be given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.

*Please note that one reading book has been sent home this week. Two will be sent home from next Wednesday.

Please ask your child not to bring their own reading books in from home. They are given the opportunity to select a reading book from our class bookcase. Thank you for your support.

Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence. Please try to read with your child every night.

The children will have the opportunity to change their library books each week (day to be confirmed). Please spend time sharing these stories at home and asking about their choices.

End of Day Routine

• Children will only be allowed to go home with adults listed on the safeguarding form, unless school has been contacted to state otherwise. ​
• Children will be dismissed one at a time. We kindly request that all children are dismissed prior to teachers/ Teaching Assistants being approached by parents. ​
• Should any child need to come back into the classroom, we will allow them back into the room after all of the children have been dismissed.​
