Dear Parents,

Year 2 Class Worship

The children thoroughly enjoyed performing their class worship for parents, grandparents and the children in school. Thank you for your support.

Book Fair Poster Competition Winners

Thank you to everyone who entered our book fair poster competition. There were lots of fantastic posters which made it a very tricky decision.

Wilbur is our class winner and will receive a £5 voucher for the fair. His poster will also be displayed around school.

The book fair will be open during parents evening on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th February in the out of school club room. It will also be open on Thursday 26th February in the hall from 8:30am – 9am. All payments are made online through a QR code. The children will be taken as a class to visit the fair throughout the week to browse the books available. We are able to order extra copies of books should this be needed.

Let’s GO ALL IN together for the National Year of Reading and earn lots of exciting new books for our school.

World Book Day – Thursday 5th March 2026

For World Book Day this year we invite the children to dress up as their favourite book character. The children will participate in lots of fun reading activities throughout the day and share their favourite stories.

Children's Mental Health Week

The theme for this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is This is my Place. That means feeling like you’re part of something, such as your family, your school, your group of friends or a team. These happy moments help us feel connected, valued, and accepted. When we feel like we belong, we feel happy, safe, and ready to learn and play. It helps us grow strong in our minds and bodies, and it makes it easier to make friends, do well in school, and feel good about ourselves.

On Wednesday, we all came together to watch the Children’s Mental Health Week live assembly (affiliated with Picture News).

We have been busy writing limericks this week. The children came up with some super limericks based on Paddington. We have also been learning about non-chronological reports. We linked our English work to our geography topic on the United Kingdom. The children produced some excellent reports containing facts learned about the United Kingdom.

In maths this week, we have been learning how to solve addition and subtraction calculations using the part- whole method. We have also focused on how to calculate how many more. We have used the vocabulary FEWER and DIFFERENCE to explain our reasoning.

We learned all about Dr Thomas Barnado in our RE lesson. The children were extremely enthusiastic in their discussions about how charities such as Barnado's help other children.

HOMEWORK

Reading

reading spring.jpg

Please try to read with your child every night. Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence.

Please note that reading books are changed on a Tuesday and two books are given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.

Weekly Spellings

A new spelling overview will be sent home during the first week of Spring Term 2.
