Year 2 Blog- 1.5.26
Date: 28th Apr 2026 @ 7:12pm

Dear parents,
Thank you for ensuring that your child waits for all of the other children to be dismissed before re-entering the classroom at the end of the day.
End of Day Routine
- Children will only be allowed to go home with adults listed on the safeguarding form, unless school has been contacted to state otherwise.
- Children will be dismissed one at a time. Please let the adult on the door know who you are picking up and they will then call the child.
- We kindly request that all children are dismissed prior to teachers/ Teaching Assistants being approached by parents.
- Should any child need to come back into the classroom, we will allow them back into the room after all of the children have been dismissed.
PE
A polite request that all children bring trainers/ pumps for every PE session. Thank you for your support with this.
WEEKLY CHALLENGE

In English this week, we have been exploring the exciting marketplace setting from Aladdin. The children began by looking closely at images, using their observation skills to identify and collect a wide range of nouns such as lanterns, rugs and crowds. The children then developed their vocabulary by adding carefully chosen adjectives to create detailed noun phrases, for example crowded streets and colourful stalls, and practised extending these using ‘with’ and ‘that’. Building on this, the class wrote their own sentences using ‘and’ and ‘or’, before creating their own setting descriptions inspired by the busy marketplace.

This week, the children continued their work on creating a collage by drawing people they know who attend church, cutting them out, and arranging them into the shape of a church building.
Please see our gallery page to look at some photographs taken in our science lesson this week.
Reading

Please try to read with your child every night. Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence.
Please note that reading books are changed on a Tuesday and two books are given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.

The children will have the opportunity to change their library books each Tuesday. Please spend time sharing these stories at home and asking about their choices.

As mentioned in previous blogs, it would really help your child if they are familiar with the following spellings before starting Year 3. Please take a look at the “files to download” section on the Year 2 class page to find the list. It might be helpful to display the spellings somewhere at home so your child can see and practise them regularly.
