Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Year 2 Friday blog!

Courageous Advocacy: Water Walk
This year, our school council have been looking at ways we can save water as a school, as well as
helping charities such as Water Aid to deliver clean water to other countries. As part of this theme,
the school council have organised a water walk on Wednesday 21st May. This will involve all
children walking around our daily mile track whilst carrying containers of water. There has been a
sponsorship form sent home with your child to raise money for Water Aid. Thank you in advance.

Maths Challenge

Our learning this week in Year 2

We have been writing an innovated version of Lila and the Secret of Rain. The focus of our lessons throughout the week has been to write in the past tense. The children have also worked hard to use apostrophes for contracted forms of words (wouldn't, couldn't etc.).Towards the end of the week, we started work on our new text entitled Animated Classics Disney Aladdin. Our activities have focused on using the joining words 'and' and 'or'.

We have been using addition and subtraction jottings to help us to solve word problems. We have also been focusing on SATs-style questions and have been applying our knowledge learned throughout the year.

Following on from our class discussions last week, we created drawings to depict Jacob's Dream and explained the meaning behind the drawings to our talk partners.

We have been adding sounds to a tune to improve it. We have also been thinking about how music can be used to express feelings. The children did an amazing job!

Spellings - Please find this weeks spellings below and a link to spelling frame. Our spelling quiz will be on Thursday 22nd May.

Choose five or more spellings and write a sentence for each of the words. Remember to think it, say, write it and then check for full stops and capital letters.
