Year 2 Blog - 17.10.25
Date: 14th Oct 2025 @ 3:52pm

Dear Parents,
We have had another fantastic week in Year 2! The children enjoyed their dance session with Chorley SSP on Monday. We have also enjoyed lots of fun activities in class.
I am looking forward to seeing you all at the Parent Consultation Meeting on Monday 20th October.

This week in Year 2, we’ve been focusing on key spelling, punctuation and grammar skills to build strong foundations in writing. Our lessons have explored nouns, adjectives, and plurals.
-
Nouns – We learned that nouns are the names of people, places, and things. The children had fun identifying and collecting nouns from around the classroom and in sentences.
-
Adjectives – We explored how adjectives help make our writing more exciting by describing nouns. The children created some wonderfully imaginative sentences, adding colourful and creative adjectives to simple nouns.
-
Plurals – We also looked at how to change singular nouns into plurals, including adding -s and -es. This sparked great discussions and some fantastic examples during independent work.
The children have shown great enthusiasm and are beginning to apply these skills in their writing.
CHALLENGE
Ask your child to describe something around the house using a noun and an adjective—or challenge them to turn a few singular nouns into plurals.

This week in Maths, we have been learning all about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. We’ve explored how to identify shapes by looking at the number of sides, edges, faces and vertices.
One of the highlights was playing our ‘Guess the 2D and 3D Shape’ game! The children had lots of fun describing shapes using their properties while we all tried to work out which shape was being described.

The children have been learning how to add and remove cells as part of our topic on spreadsheets. They have also been using 2calculate on Purple Mash to explore how to carry out calculations with a spreadsheet.
Please see the gallery section for photographs of the children in their computing lesson using spreadsheets. There are also photographs of them using their orienteering skills in our geography lesson last week (which we have used in our geography lesson on mapping skills this week).
HOMEWORK
Reading
Please try to read with your child every night. Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence.
