Welcome to Year 2.png

Friday awards 17.4.26.jpg

Dear parents,

Welcome back! We hope you all had a relaxing Easter break.

The children have settled back into school and have been working hard all week.

Safety in PE
We would like to remind all parents that for the safety of all children and following guidance from Chorley SSP, jewellery is not to be worn during PE. This includes earrings, bracelets and watches. All children will be asked to remove their jewellery at the start of every PE lesson. This will ensure their own safety during the lesson and the safety of others. If a child is unable to take out their own earrings, adults in school will not be able to do it for them. This will mean they will have to take another role in the lesson such as observing, coaching or officiating.
For this reason, if your child is not confident taking out earrings, please do not put them in on our PE days. This term, our PE lessons are on Tuesday and Friday, however we may also have extra lessons on other days throughout the year.

Thank you for your support in keeping our children safe.

End of Day Routine

  • Children will only be allowed to go home with adults listed on the safeguarding form, unless school has been contacted to state otherwise.
  • Children will be dismissed one at a time. Please let the adult on the door know who you are picking up and they will then call the child.
  • We kindly request that all children are dismissed prior to teachers/ Teaching Assistants being approached by parents.
  • Should any child need to come back into the classroom, we will allow them back into the room after all of the children have been dismissed.

In our English lessons this week, the children have been drawing on their science knowledge about habitats. The key features of a non-chronological report, including titles and subheadings, were then explored. Research on different habitats was also carried out to support the planning of their own reports.

In maths this week, the children have been focusing on solving addition and subtraction problems involving length. A range of strategies, including bar models and jottings, have been used to solve a variety of problems. Base 10 equipment was used to support the children’s learning.

In this week’s RE lesson, we introduced our new topic on the Church by asking the children to think about a place that is special to them. The children reflected on why this place is meaningful, considering what makes it special and how it makes them feel when they are there.

Reading

reading spring.jpg

Please try to read with your child every night. Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence.

Please note that reading books are changed on a Tuesday and two books are given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.

The children will have the opportunity to change their library books each Tuesday. Please spend time sharing these stories at home and asking about their choices.

As mentioned in previous blogs, it would really help your child if they are familiar with the following spellings before starting Year 3. Please take a look at the “files to download” section on the Year 2 class page to find the list. It might be helpful to display the spellings somewhere at home so your child can see and practise them regularly.
