This week in English, we have been following Wilf the wolf on his journey to find his pack.
We used clues from the story to infer Wilf’s thoughts and feelings, discussing how he might have felt at different points in his journey. We also explored synonyms to find more interesting ways to describe feelings such as sad and worried.
We then practised using the joining words ‘and’ and ‘but’ to make our sentences more interesting. Finally, the children wrote thank-you letters in role as Wilf to the animals who helped him safely find his way home.
The children have been developing their vocabulary, inference skills and confidence in writing from a character’s point of view. Well done, Year 2!

This week in Maths, we started our topic on measurement. We have been learning about metres (m) and centimetres (cm) and thinking carefully about which unit of measurement is best to use.
We have been busy measuring objects around our classroom using rulers, metre sticks and measuring tapes. We practised measuring carefully from 0 and making sure we read the scale accurately.

This week in Science, we have been learning about the famous Scottish scientist and inventor Charles Macintosh.
We discovered how Charles Macintosh experimented with different materials and invented waterproof fabric. His invention was used to make waterproof coats, helping people to stay dry in wet weather!
The children investigated why some materials are more suitable than others for particular uses. We thought carefully about the properties of different materials, such as whether they are waterproof, absorbent, strong, flexible or hard-wearing.
We then created our own Charles Macintosh fact files, researching important information about his life and invention. The children enjoyed finding out how science and materials can be used to solve everyday problems.
We have been developing our research skills, scientific vocabulary and ability to explain why a particular material is suitable for a specific purpose.
Reading books will be changed on a Wednesday. Two books will be given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.
*Please note that one reading book has been sent home this week. Two will be sent home from next Wednesday.
Please ask your child not to bring their own reading books in from home. They are given the opportunity to select a reading book from our class bookcase. Thank you for your support.
Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence. Please try to read with your child every night.
The children will have the opportunity to change their library books each week (day to be confirmed). Please spend time sharing these stories at home and asking about their choices.

In addition to the weekly spellings, please practise reading and spelling the common exception words throughout the year. Regular practice will help the children to become more confident with their spelling .Please see the common exception word list below:

End of Day Routine
- Children will only be allowed to go home with adults listed on the safeguarding form, unless school has been contacted to state otherwise.
- Children will be dismissed one at a time. We kindly request that all children are dismissed prior to teachers/ Teaching Assistants being approached by parents.
- Should any child need to come back into the classroom, we will allow them back into the room after all of the children have been dismissed.
