Wellbeing Homework
We have been learning about water safety as part of Drowning Prevention Week (13th-20th June).

This week in English, Year 2 have been learning all about instructions and how to write them clearly so that others can follow them.
We started by exploring a set of instructions for playing Snakes and Ladders. We discussed the different features of instruction writing, including a title, a list of equipment, numbered steps and clear, simple language.
We then moved on to look at how we brush our teeth. We talked about why it is important to keep our teeth clean and healthy and discussed how each step should be carried out carefully. This helped us understand how important it is for instructions to be clear, detailed and in the correct order.
Our focus throughout the week has been on using imperative verbs (bossy verbs). We spotted words such as place, roll, move, brush, rinse and spit in the instructions.
To bring our learning to life, we had lots of fun acting out the instructions at the front of the class. This helped us understand the importance of giving instructions in the correct order and making them easy to follow.
Finally, the children used everything they had learnt to write their own set of instructions for cleaning their teeth. They carefully included imperative verbs, numbered steps and clear, sequenced instructions.

This week in Maths, Year 2 have been developing their addition skills by using number lines.
We began by learning how to add multiples of 10 to a two-digit number. We used number lines to make jumps of 10, helping us to see how the tens digit changes while the ones digit stays the same. The children quickly became more confident with this strategy and enjoyed practising with a range of calculations.
Once we had mastered adding multiples of 10, we moved on to making jumps of 10 and jumps of 1 on a number line to solve more challenging calculations. The children carefully drew their own number lines and recorded each jump to help them work out the answers accurately.
We talked about the importance of choosing the correct jumps and checking that our calculations made sense. The children showed fantastic perseverance and mathematical thinking as they explained their methods to their partners and the class.

This week in RE, we continued learning about Jesus and talked about Heaven, the special place Jesus said he was going to. We had a thoughtful class discussion about what Heaven might be like. The children shared their own ideas and listened respectfully to the thoughts of others. The children then had the opportunity to express what they thought Heaven might be like in their own creative way.

Please note that reading books will now be changed on a Wednesday. Two books are given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.
Please ask your child not to bring their own reading books in from home. They are given the opprtunity to select a reading book from our class bookcase. Thank you for your support.
Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence. Please try to read with your child every night.

The children will have the opportunity to change their library books each Tuesday. Please spend time sharing these stories at home and asking about their choices.
