Holiday Challenge

This week in English, the children have been learning how to use subordination for time using the words when and while in their sentences. During our grammar warm-up sessions, the children practised adding extra detail to make their writing more interesting.
Our learning objective this week was to use the past tense to write a recount. The children explored the story of Aladdin and wrote diary entries from the point of view of Princess Jasmine. They retold the key events in the correct order and included Jasmine’s thoughts, feelings and questions about the different events in the story.

This week in maths lessons, the children have been completing arithmetic and reasoning assessment papers. They have all worked extremely hard and impressed us with their determination, resilience and positive attitudes towards their learning. We are all very proud of the effort the children have shown throughout the week.

In RE this week, we have continued our learning about the church and reflected on everything we have learned throughout the half term. The children worked with their talk partners to discuss the different features of a church, why churches are important to Christians and what happens during worship. They enjoyed sharing their ideas, listening carefully to one another and explaining what they have remembered from our lessons.
Reading

Please note that reading books will now be changed on a Wednesday. Two books are given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.
Please ask your child not to bring their own reading books in from home. They are given the opprtunity to select a reading book from our class bookcase. Thank you for your support.
Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence. Please try to read with your child every night.

The children will have the opportunity to change their library books each Tuesday. Please spend time sharing these stories at home and asking about their choices.
Weekly Spellings
A new spelling and times tables overview for Summer Term 2 will be uploaded to the class page during the first week back after half term. There will not be a spelling quiz during the first week back at school.
Please continue to practise the common exception words at home to help prepare for Year 3. Regular practice will help the children to become more confident with their spelling and ready for the next stage of their learning.

Times Tables
Please continue to practise the 2, 5 and 10 times tables at home, as well as the related division facts, to help build confidence and fluency in Maths.

End of Day Routine
- Children will only be allowed to go home with adults listed on the safeguarding form, unless school has been contacted to state otherwise.
- Children will be dismissed one at a time. Please let the adult on the door know who you are picking up and they will then call the child.
- We kindly request that all children are dismissed prior to teachers/ Teaching Assistants being approached by parents.
- Should any child need to come back into the classroom, we will allow them back into the room after all of the children have been dismissed.
Thank you for your support during the half term period.
Have a safe and relaxing break.
