Welcome to Year 2.png

Friday awards 17.4.26.jpg

Dear parents,

We have had a lovely week. Chorley SSP visited on Monday, and Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed their PE session in the hall. On Tuesday, we all enjoyed watching the Year 1 class worship, which focused on Earth Day. This inspired thoughtful discussions about the importance of caring for our planet, including protecting natural resources, reducing waste, and understanding how even small actions can help look after the Earth for future generations.

School Trip

Letters have been sent home in bags outlining the details of a planned visit to Clitheroe Castle Museum on 8.7.26. Please return the consent forms to school by Friday 22nd May 2026. Thank you in advance.

End of Day Routine

  • Children will only be allowed to go home with adults listed on the safeguarding form, unless school has been contacted to state otherwise.
  • Children will be dismissed one at a time. Please let the adult on the door know who you are picking up and they will then call the child.
  • We kindly request that all children are dismissed prior to teachers/ Teaching Assistants being approached by parents.
  • Should any child need to come back into the classroom, we will allow them back into the room after all of the children have been dismissed.

This week we have continued our work on non-chronological reports. The children followed a structured plan to create a report about a habitat of their choice, such as a river, woodland, or underground environment. They worked hard to include all the key features of this type of writing, including a clear title, an engaging introduction, subheadings written as questions, and a concluding paragraph. The children produced some fantastic reports and showed great understanding of how to organise information clearly and effectively.

The children have been consolidating their understanding of addition and subtraction by solving routine word problems in the context of measures.

Screenshot 2026-04-19 194218.jpgWe have also been learning how to describe 2-D shapes according to the number of sides and vertices, and looking at whether any of the sides or vertices are the same size as each other.

This week, our learning objective was to understand that the church is a holy place for Christians. The children discussed who might go to church and what happens there. They then created a collage by drawing people they know who attend church, cutting them out, and arranging them into the shape of a church building.

Please see our gallery page to look at some photographs taken this week.

Reading

Please try to read with your child every night. Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence.

Please note that reading books are changed on a Tuesday and two books are given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.

The children will have the opportunity to change their library books each Tuesday. Please spend time sharing these stories at home and asking about their choices.

As mentioned in previous blogs, it would really help your child if they are familiar with the following spellings before starting Year 3. Please take a look at the “files to download” section on the Year 2 class page to find the list. It might be helpful to display the spellings somewhere at home so your child can see and practise them regularly.
