HOLIDAY CHALLENGE

This week in our English lessons, we have been getting creative by writing our own innovative versions of The Wind in the Willows. We explored how stories can be adapted and reimagined, and we had lots of fun making changes to the original tale.
In our version, Toad has swapped his motorcar for a modern electric scooter! This exciting twist inspired us to think carefully about how the story might change and how Toad would behave with his new favourite vehicle. We described his adventures in imaginative ways, thinking about speed, movement, and his personality.
During our writing sessions, we also focused on using adverbs to make our sentences more interesting. We practised describing how Toad zoomed quickly, laughed loudly, and steered carelessly along the paths. These adverbs helped us to bring our writing to life and made our stories more engaging for the reader.

In our maths lessons this week, we have been learning how to solve multiplication and division problems using the different methods we have practiced throughout the unit. The children have been exploring how to divide numbers in two ways: grouping and sharing.
With grouping, we worked out how many groups of a certain size we could make from a number of objects. With sharing, we practiced dividing a number of objects equally among a set number of people or groups. The children have shown great understanding and enthusiasm, and it has been wonderful to see them explain their thinking and help each other solve tricky problems.

This week in RE, we continued our learning about Salvation and explored the question: “Why does Easter matter to Christians?” We started by revisiting the Easter story, talking about the events that led up to Easter Sunday and why they are important to Christians.
The children then worked in small groups to bring the story to life by creating freeze frames. They carefully acted out the story, holding still poses to show what was happening, such as the Last Supper, the journey to the cross, and the joy of Easter Sunday.

Reading

Please try to read with your child every night. Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence.
Please note that reading books are changed on a Tuesday and two books are given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.

The children will have the opportunity to change their library books each Tuesday. Please spend time sharing these stories at home and asking about their choices.
Weekly Spellings
A new spelling and times tables overview for Summer Term 1 will be added to the class blog during the first week back at school after the Easter break.
