Welcome to Year 2.png

Friday awards 30.1.26.jpg

Dear Parents,

We have had another busy week in Year 2. The children have been bringing their own Paddington books into school for us to enjoy.  We have also seen some lovely teddies that have been brought in. The children are all really enthusiastic about our English topic on Paddington.

PE Kits

Please note that for safety reasons, children need a complete PE kit (shorts, PE top, trainers/pumps) to be able to participate in our PE sessions on a Tuesday and a Thursday. Earrings to be taken out at home if possible. Thank you in advance.

My Happy Minds

We are all enjoying the My Happy Minds programme, and are currently working on the Celebrate module.

We have been learning how to use capital letters correctly for proper nouns and how to use conjunctions to join two shorter sentences. After reading a letter sent to Paddington by Aunt Lucy, the children wrote a reply to her, imagining they were Paddington himself. The children all wrote some super letters.

Within the topic of Measurement, we have been focusing on volume. The children were initially asked to read the amount of liquid in the measuring cylinders. They were then asked to show the given volume. Finally, they had to match the volumes with the correct pictures of measuring cylinders.

In our RE lesson, the children wrote a letter to Jesus from the leper who came back to say thank you.  We thought about the following questions:

Why is saying thank you so important?
Do you always remember to say thank you?
Why did the other lepers forget?

HOMEWORK

Reading

Please try to read with your child every night. Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence.

Please note that reading books are changed on a Tuesday and two books are given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.
