Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Year 2 class blog. The children have all settled well into their new classroom and have impressed us with their attitude to learning.

Every Friday, we will share our learning journey with you via our class blog. The weekly homework and spellings will also be available to view each Friday.  

​Medication Please check dates of medication. Any outstanding medication needs to be replaced immediately. End of Day Routine Children will only be allowed to go home with adults listed on the safeguarding form, unless school has been contacted to state otherwise. ​ Children will be dismissed one at a time. We kindly request that all children are dismissed prior to teachers/ Teaching Assistants being approached by parents. ​ Should any child need to come back into the classroom, we will allow them back into the room after all of the children have been dismissed.​ DATE FOR THE DIARY: Our Meet the Teacher event will be on Tuesday 22nd September at 9.10am. I look forward to seeing you there! The information from the meeting will be shared on the class page that day.    ​Challenge  A maths, spelling, punctuation and grammar, or reading challenge will be added here each week for the children to try at home.

At the start of the week, we were all very excited to hear the story of Neon Leon, which helped us develop our understanding of having a growth mindset. The children then used their creativity to design their very own chameleons, thinking carefully about their unique colours, patterns and features.

We have also started our new topic by studying wolf characters in different stories. Our new text will be revealed next week!

In our RE lesson, we explored the idea of special books and talked about why they are important to us. We shared our ideas and discussed:

• What makes a book special?
• How can we look after a special book?
• When might we read or look at our special book?

We enjoyed sharing our thoughts and learning about what makes books meaningful to different people.

Reading books will be changed on a Wednesday. Two books will be given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.

*Please note that one reading book has been sent home this week. Two will be sent home from next Wednesday.

Please ask your child not to bring their own reading books in from home. They are given the opportunity to select a reading book from our class bookcase. Thank you for your support.

Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence. Please try to read with your child every night.

The children will have the opportunity to change their library books each week (day to be confirmed). Please spend time sharing these stories at home and asking about their choices.

In addition to the weekly spellings, please practise reading and spelling the common exception words throughout the year. Regular practice will help the children to become more confident with their spelling .Please see the common exception word list below:
