This week in English, the children have been focusing on reading and have worked through assessment booklets. They have approached these tasks with a positive attitude, demonstrating perseverance, concentration and a willingness to challenge themselves. Throughout the week, they have applied their reading comprehension skills, carefully considering extracts from texts and responding thoughtfully to a variety of questions.

This week in Maths, the children have been learning all about time. They have been developing their understanding of o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to, as well as practising reading and interpreting times on analogue clocks. The children have enjoyed taking part in a range of practical activities to help build their confidence, including matching times, solving problems and discussing daily routines. They have worked hard to explain their reasoning and have shown great determination when tackling more challenging time questions.

In RE, we started our new topic by thinking about the big question: What Do Christians Believe Happened at Ascension and Pentecost?

To begin our learning, we discussed saying goodbye and the different feelings people can have when they part from family and friends. We shared our own experiences of saying goodbye on different occasions and talked about emotions such as happiness, sadness, excitement and worry. We discovered that goodbye can be communicated in many different ways, not just by saying the word itself.

We then learned about the Ascension of Jesus. In the story, Jesus returned to his Father in heaven. Although the Bible does not record Jesus actually saying the word "goodbye", we discussed how he was saying goodbye to his close friends as he left them. We thought about how the disciples might have felt and how this event helps Christians understand the meaning of the Ascension.

Please note that reading books will now be changed on a Wednesday. Two books are given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.

Please ask your child not to bring their own reading books in from home. They are given the opprtunity to select a reading book from our class bookcase. Thank you for your support.

Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence. Please try to read with your child every night.

The children will have the opportunity to change their library books each Tuesday. Please spend time sharing these stories at home and asking about their choices.
