Year 2 Blog- 6.2.26
Date: 4th Feb 2026 @ 7:18pm

Dear Parents,
Class Worship
We are very much looking forward to performing our Class Worship on Thursday 12th February at 9.10am in the school hall. Parents and grandparents are warmly invited to join us.
National Storytelling Week
We all had a lovely time on Wednesday morning when Mrs Critchley kindly visited the Year 2 classroom to share her favourite story, The Rainbow Fish. The children were fully engaged, and a super discussion about the text followed. We ended the week with Mrs. Platt sharing her favourite story with the class.
Book Fair Competition
READING CHALLENGE
Answer the following questions orally.

We have been busy editing our innovated stories based on Paddington in the Garden. As well as checking for capital letters and full stops, the children have been adding adjectives, exclamation marks and question marks. We will be looking at poems with a structure next week, and will study a range of limericks and explore their rhyming patterns.

We have started our topic on Addition and Subtraction. The children have been using part–whole diagrams to help them solve calculations. They have also been learning how to use exchange when subtracting, using practical resources and pictorial representations to support their learning and build confidence.

In RE, the children have been exploring the theme of empathy. They discussed times in their own lives when they have felt rejected or hurt and how those feelings can be healed. We read the story of Blind Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46–52, Luke 18:35–43) and talked about how his life was transformed when Jesus noticed him, listened to him and helped him, especially because so many other people ignored him. The children reflected on why Jesus showed him kindness and how this story shows the importance of noticing and helping others.
HOMEWORK
Reading

Please try to read with your child every night. Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence.
Please note that reading books are changed on a Tuesday and two books are given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.
Weekly Spellings
A spelling overview can be found in the files to download section. A copy has also been sent home in bags. We will have a spelling quiz on Thursday 12th February 2026.
