Year 2 blog- 6.3.26
Date: 3rd Mar 2026 @ 3:30pm

Dear Parents,
We’ve had a wonderful week in Year 2!
In Science, the children thoroughly enjoyed exploring microhabitats in the spinney, observing closely and discovering the different creatures and plants that live there. It was fantastic to see their curiosity in action.
We also made the most of the outdoor space in PE, where the children had great fun learning and playing playground games from the past, developing their teamwork skills along the way.

The highlight of the week was definitely Thursday’s World Book Day. It was incredible to see so many creative and imaginative costumes. Thank you so much for your continued support. We were also delighted to join up with our friends in Year 5 to share some of our favourite stories. It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate reading together and inspire one another with new book recommendations.

Please see our gallery page to look at some photographs taken throughout the week.
We have now begun our new topic on outdoor playground games, and the children are already looking forward to getting active again next week.
For these sessions, children are welcome to bring trainers instead of pumps if they prefer, as these may be more comfortable for active games.
Please remember that children will only be able to take part in PE if they have their full PE kit in school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Thank you very much for your continued support with this.
CHALLENGE

The children have shown fantastic enthusiasm for English, especially while exploring Wind in the Willows. They have thoroughly enjoyed completing a range of activities inspired by the text. Alongside building their vocabulary and matching new words to their definitions, the children have been developing their inference skills by writing thoughtfully about the thoughts and feelings of Mole and Water Rat during their first meeting. They have also written imaginative diary entries from Mr Toad’s perspective, capturing his emotions and experiences while in his prison cell.

Reading

Please try to read with your child every night. Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence.
Please note that reading books are changed on a Tuesday and two books are given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.
