Dear Parents,

We have had another busy week in Year 2. The children all enjoyed their PE sessions with Chorley SSP on Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. The Santa Dash has also been a source of great excitement in class this week.

We have been looking at another text by Simon Bartram entitled 'A right Royal Disaster'. With talking partners, the children discussed their understanding of the plot, giving opinions and supporting with reasons. They particularly enjoyed arranging given adjectives onto a target of Queen Battleaxe. The adjectives that best described the character went near the centre of the target. The children then gave reasons for their choices.

In our maths lessons this week, we have been focusing on the topic of money. We looked at various items with price tags attached and focused on both addition and subtraction. The children have used pounds and pence in their calculations.

We have had an RE week in class focusing on Incarnation. We discussed why Christmas is so important to Christians, as well as why Jesus was so special to Christians. The children all came up with some wonderful ideas. As part of one of the sessions, we focused on what a king might look like. This linked to work on Jesus as a king.

Please see our gallery for some pictures of the drawings of the kings.

HOMEWORK

Reading

Please try to read with your child every night. Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence.

Please note that reading books are changed on a Tuesday and two books are given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.
