Dear Parents,

Thank you for supporting Odd Socks Day on Monday 10th November. The theme for Anti-Bullying Week this year is Power for Good. The children all loved singing along to the song 'Power for Good' by Andy and the Odd Socks band.

We have been continuing to focus on our topic of performance poetry. We have been concentrating on how to recite a poem using appropriate intonation. We have also been looking at how to recognise the use of repetitive language within a poem. Having studied the poem Scissors in depth, we then went on to innovate the poem to produce our own. 

 

This week in Maths, we have started our topic on Fractions. We have been learning that a fraction is a part of a whole. We looked at how to identify fractions by looking at the number of equal parts altogether (the denominator) and looking at the number of equal parts that are shaded (the numerator).

 

We had a fantastic history/science lesson this week courtesy of the Wonder Dome company! The children had an amazing morning in the wonder dome tent on Wednesday learning all about space. This brought our history topic on space to life and the children were very excited to find out more facts about Neil Armstrong and Tim Peake.

HOMEWORK

Reading

Please try to read with your child every night. Regular reading at home really helps to build comprehension skills, including inference (reading between the lines), as well as improving fluency and confidence.

Please note that reading books are changed on a Tuesday and two books are given to each child to read for the week. Please write a note in your child's reading record book when a book has been completed and sign the relevant parent signature box. This allows for an easy change as we know if the book has been read.
