Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Year 2 class blog. The children have all settled well into their new classroom and have impressed us with their attitude to learning.

Every Friday, we will share our learning journey with you via our class blog. The weekly homework and spellings will also be available to view each Friday.

P.E. will be held every Tuesday and Thursday.
No earrings to be worn to school on P.E.days.
A full P.E. kit needs to be left in school.
Trainers can be worn for P.E. lessons.

Medication

Please check dates of medication. Any outstanding medication needs to be replaced immediately.

End of Day Routine

Children will only be allowed to go home with adults listed on the safeguarding form, unless school has been contacted to state otherwise.
Children will be dismissed one at a time. We kindly request that all children are dismissed prior to teachers/ Teaching Assistants being approached by parents.
Should any child need to come back into the classroom, we will allow them back into the room after all of the children have been dismissed.

Challenge

A maths, spelling, punctuation and grammar, or reading challenge will be added here each week for the children to try at home.

Our learning this week in Year 2

At the start of the week, we were all very excited to hear the story of Neon Leon to help with our understanding of a growth mindset. The children then went on to design their own chameleons. Leading up to the introduction of our new text, we have also looked at the story of The Three Little Pigs and retold the story in our own words.

This Week in Maths: We have been focusing on place value this week. The children have used the base 10 equipment to to help them count the tens and ones.

We talked about our own special books in our RE lesson. We focused on the following questions:

Why is it special?
How do you look after it?
When do you look at your special book?

Reading - Please read every night. Answer a selection of questions about the thoughts, feelings and actions of any of the characters in your reading book.

Reading books will be changed every Tuesday. Each child will be given two books for the week ahead. Please ensure that reading books are brought into school every day. If a reading book needs to be changed, please write in the reading record book that your child has finished their book / read to the end. Thank you in advance.

Spellings - Please find this weeks spelling list below, as well as a link to spelling frame. Our first spelling quiz will be on Thursday 11th September. Each child has been given a paper copy of the spelling overview for Autumn Term 1.

Choose two or more spellings and write a sentence for each of the words. Remember to think it, say, write it and then check for full stops and capital letters. These sentences can be kept at home to be shared with your family.

Times tables

In Year 2, we will focus on the 2, 5, and 10 times tables.
The weekly times tables quizzes will begin in Autumn Term 2.
A multiplication square can serve as a useful aid when learning the times tables facts.
