Dear Parents,
We have had a fantastic week celebrating the VE Day 80th Anniversary. As well as listening to the Year 5 children playing wartime songs on the playground (whilst waving our flags), we also enjoyed a delicious celebration picnic on the field. Please read the history section below and look at the VE Day gallery to find out more about our VE Day celebrations.
Our learning this week in Year 2

We started off our English lessons this week by matching given definitions to words collected from the text shown above. We then studied the setting shown in the opening pages of the text and thought about some of our senses. We listed what we could see, hear, smell and feel, creating noun phrases for each of the sections. The children came up with lots of super expanded noun phrases and these will be used in their writing at a later point in this topic. |
Maths
The children have been extending number sequences in twos, fives and tens forwards and backwards from any number and have also been identifying numbers that appear in more than one pattern. We have also been learning how to complete addition and subtraction equations using jottings, as shown below:

Look at the following maths fluency questions. Try using the number 50 and then use a variety of different numbers of your own choice.

RE
We watched a video of Jacob's Dream, as described in Genesis 28:10-22. Jacob, on his journey, stopped to rest and used a stone as a pillow when he received the dream. God appeared to him, promising to give him the land he was lying on and to bless his descendants. This was the focus of our class discussion and the children offered some excellent thoughts as to how Jacob might have felt at various points in his journey.

As well as writing and drawing our ideas to help contribute to a peaceful future, we also made peace wreaths. We finished the day by coming together to sing I'll Remember, a song composed by Simon Haw MBE. It really is a wonderful song and the children sang it beautifully.
