Book Fair

Thank you to everyone who entered our book fair poster competition. There were some amazing designs, which will be displayed around school after half term when the book fair opens.

Congratrulations to the winner of the competition from our class - Taliah!

The book fair will be open during parents evening on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th February in the out of school club room. It will also be open on Thursday 26th February in hall from 8:30am – 9am. All payments are made online through a QR code. The children will be taken as a class to visit the fair throughout the week to browse the books available. We are able to order extra copies of books should this be needed.

Let’s GO ALL IN together for the National Year of Reading and earn lots of exciting new books for our school.

Children's Mental Health Week

The theme for this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is This is my Place. That means feeling like you’re part of something, such as your family, your school, your group of friends or a team. These happy moments help us feel connected, valued, and accepted. When we feel like we belong, we feel happy, safe, and ready to learn and play. It helps us grow strong in our minds and bodies, and it makes it easier to make friends, do well in school, and feel good about ourselves.

On Wednesday, we all came together to watch the Children’s Mental Health Week live assembly (affiliated with Picture News).

Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Remember to ask questions as this will improve key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. Children should also have their school reading books in school every day so that an adult can read with them.

Spellings - Although there are no spellings to learn over half term, spelling shed is still a great place to practise using all of our year 3 spelling rules, as well as previous rules from year 1 and 2.

Times tables - Times tables are a vital skill, which will be used throughout the year and through the rest of the childrens school journeys and lives. In order to prepare every child as well as we can, we ask that children log in to times table rockstars as many days as possible each week. On there, the children can practise all of their times tables by playing different games.

Our learning this week in Year 3

English

This week, we have been learning all about Mary Anning, the famous fossil hunter.

We have used our new knowledge along with what we have found out about biographies to write an introduction to a biography about Mary Anning.

Maths

This week in Maths, we have been learning about shapes. We have had lot of practice at finding angles in shapes and identifying whether or not they are right angles.

Today, we moved on to finding perpendicular and parallel lines within shapes.

RE

In RE, we have continued thinking about our big question: What does it mean to be called by God?

This week, we learned about Jonah. Can you remember what God asked Jonah to do?

Have a fantastic half term!
