Dear parents,

Welcome to the Year 3 Friday blog!

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and times tables and lots more.

Well done to all the children who have earned our weekly awards this week!

Safety in PE

We would like to remind all parents that for the safety of all children and following guidance from Chorley SSP, jewellery is not to be worn during PE. This includes earrings, bracelets and watches. All children will be asked to remove their jewellery at the start of every PE lesson. This will ensure their own safety during the lesson and the safety of others. If a child is unable to take out their own earrings, adults in school will not be able to do it for them. This will mean they will have to take another role in the lesson such as observing, coaching or officiating.
For this reason, if your child is not confident taking out earrings, please do not put them in on our PE days. This year, our PE lessons are on Tuesday and Friday, however we may also have extra lessons on other days throughout the year.
Thank you for your support in keeping our children safe.

Bishop Phillip's Bike Ride

This afternoon, we walked over to church to greet Bishop Philip as he passed through Euxton on his 124 kilometer bike ride through the parish to raise funds for the Bishop's Harvest Appeal 2025.

Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Remember to ask questions as this will improve key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. Children should also have their school reading books in school every day so that an adult can read with them.

Spellings - There are no words to learn for a spelling quiz this week. However, children can still log in to Spelling Shed to practise all year 3 spellings.

Times tables - Times tables are a vital skill, which will be used throughout the year and through the rest of the childrens school journeys and lives. In order to prepare every child as well as we can, we ask that children log in to times table rockstars as many days as possible each week. On there, the children can practise all of their times tables by playing different games.

There are no times tables to learn for a quiz this week. However, children can still log in to times table rockstars to practise all times tables.

I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Shed and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes on both, as many nights as possible. If you are struggling to find time to log in to Spelling Shed or TT Rockstars on a device, please find alternative ways of practising our weekly spellings and times tables, such as verbal tests/chanting in the car, or using one of the attached spelling strategies.

An overview for spellings and times tables can be found at the bottom of the blog.

Our learning this week in Year 3

English

This week, every child has written a persuasive letter to Mrs Ash. The letters are linked to our learning in geography about the impact palm oil usage is having on the rainforests.

Maths

This week in Maths, we have completed are lessons about subtraction and moved on to using arrays to solve multiplication problems.

What multiplication questions could we solve with this array?

RE

This week in RE, we learned about how other religions celebrate harvest festivals.

Can you remember why Jewish people build Sukkahs to celebrate the festival of Sukkot?

Have a fantastic weekend!
