Reading
Reading is a very important part of the curriculum and plays a key role in supporting children's learning and development. This week, the children have been sent home with a reading book to enjoy. Once they have finished reading their book and their reading record has been signed, they can have their book changed. The children have been reminded to let an adult know when they are ready for a new book. We encourage all children to read regularly at home, as this helps to develop their fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and confidence.
Times tables
The children will continue to use TT Rockstars to practice there times tables knowledge. The use of times tables is key to the maths curriculum and the children will gain so much from being able to recite their tables at speed.

English
This week in English, we have continued our learning through 101 Dalmatians by Dodie Smith. We began by identifying the key features of a diary entry before planning and writing our own diary entries from Pongo’s point of view. We used the first person to retell the exciting day that Pongo met Perdita in the park.
To make our writing more descriptive, we explored Pongo’s experience using our five senses. We generated exciting vocabulary to describe what Pongo might have been seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and feeling whilst in the park. We then used these ideas to add detail to our diary entries and show Pongo’s thoughts and feelings about meeting Perdita for the very first time. I was incredibly proud of the children’s writing and creativity this week. It was wonderful to see how much thought and effort they put into their diary entries. Well done, Year 3!
Maths
Place Value / Addition and Subtraction
This week in Maths, we continued to develop our understanding of number and place value. We started by counting 10 and 100 more or less than a given number, using our place value knowledge to help us work out the answers efficiently.
We then moved on to addition and subtraction, developing our mental arithmetic skills. We practised partitioning numbers into smaller parts and used number lines to show our partitioned jumps clearly before finding the answer. We then applied the same method to solve subtraction calculations. The children worked hard to explain their thinking and became increasingly confident when choosing how to partition numbers.
