Dear parents,

Welcome to the Year 3 Friday blog!

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and times tables and lots more.

Well done to all the children who have earned our weekly awards this week!

Rainbow Raffle

We’re excited to announce our Rainbow Raffle! Each class will create a beautiful hamper based around a specific colour, making a stunning rainbow of prizes for you to win.

How it works: Every class has been assigned a colour and families are invited to donate items in that colour to help fill their class hamper. Please bring donations into school by Monday 15th December.

Reception: Red
Y1: Orange
Y2: Yellow
Y3: Green
Y4: Blue
Y5: Purple
Y6: Pink

Hampers will be raffled off at our carols in the hall on the afternoon of Thursday 18th December.

Tickets were sent home in bags on Monday. Please return any money and ticket stubs in an envelope to the school office. Any unsold tickets can be sent back to the office also. Thank you for your support in making this a fun and colourful event for our school community.

Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Remember to ask questions as this will improve key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. Children should also have their school reading books in school every day so that an adult can read with them.

Spellings - For our spelling quizzes this year, there will be a list of 10 words sent home to learn. These words will all follow a spelling rule that we are learning in class that week. Our spelling quiz each Thursday will then consist of 8 of these words as well as 2 words the children have previously learned. As homework, each child should log into Spelling Shed and complete this weeks assignment using the link below.

Times tables - Times tables are a vital skill, which will be used throughout the year and through the rest of the childrens school journeys and lives. In order to prepare every child as well as we can, we ask that children log in to times table rockstars as many days as possible each week. On there, the children can practise all of their times tables by playing different games.

We will also have a times tables quiz each week. Next week, we will test the 4 times table.

I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Shed and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes on both, as many nights as possible. If you are struggling to find time to log in to Spelling Shed or TT Rockstars on a device, please find alternative ways of practising our weekly spellings and times tables, such as verbal tests/chanting in the car, or using one of the attached spelling strategies.

Our learning this week in Year 3

English

This week, we have been planning and starting to write our own versions of the green child folk tale.

We have used story maps to plan our stories. Can you use the big story map we made to tell the first part of the original folk tale at home?

Maths

This week in Maths, we have completed some assessments to see how much we have understood and remembered from everything we have learned so far in year 3.

Well done to everyone for working so hard this week.

PE

This week in PE, we have been putting together some gymnastics routines. We have used all the different balances, travels, jumps and rolls from our gymnastics lessons this half term.

Well done to everyone for performing your routines in front of the rest of the class today.
