Year 4 Blog-19th June
Date: 19th Jun 2026 @ 8:36am

Welcome to the Year 4 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and times tables and lots more.
Friday awards
Well done to all those who recieved awards this week!

Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Remember to ask questions as this will improve key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. Children should also have their school reading books in school every day so that an adult can read with them.
Spellings - For our spelling quizzes this year, there will be a list of 10 words sent home to learn. These words will all follow a spelling rule that we are learning in class that week. Our spelling quiz will then take place on a Thursday, where children will be tested on those 10 words along with a mystery word from a previously taught week. This weeks words are listed below. You will also find the overview for the year on our Year 4 class page.
Wellbeing homework
We have been looking at water safety as part of drowning prevention week so here's something you can do at home.

Times tables - Times tables are a vital skill, which will be used throughout the year and through the rest of the children's school journey and lives. In order to prepare every child as well as we can, we ask that children log in to times table rockstars as many days as possible each week. On there, the children can practise all of their times tables by playing different games. As you know, children will be tested on their tables in the summer term. Please continue to practise these as much as possible at home.

We have finished reading our book-Journey to Jo'Burg! We have been able to retell the story focusing on the important events at each point of the characters journey. We have also discussed the character and her dreams to become a doctor and collected all the qualities and experinces she has that would make her suitable for the job role. We are now beginning to plan our own versions of the story thinking about a journey we can take our own characters on.
Maths
Fractions
This week we continued to look at fractions and word problems that required multiple steps to find the answer. The children were able to identify the important information in the question and use their problem solving skills to figure out which steps they needed to take to reach their answer. We also started our next topic on shapes and began by looking at symmetry. We were using diagonal lines of symmetry to draw shapes and patterns.
We hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
The year 4 team!
