Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Remember to ask questions as this will improve key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. Children should also have their school reading books in school every day so that an adult can read with them.

Wellbeing homework

Please see the files section on the class page to download a copy of the worksheet below.

Spellings - For our spelling quizzes this year, there will be a list of 10 words sent home to learn. These words will all follow a spelling rule that we are learning in class that week. Our spelling quiz will then take place on a Thursday, where children will be tested on those 10 words along with a mystery word from a previously taught week. This weeks words are listed below. You will also find the overview for the year on our Year 4 class page.

Times tables - Times tables are a vital skill, which will be used throughout the year and through the rest of the children's school journey and lives. In order to prepare every child as well as we can, we ask that children log in to times table rockstars as many days as possible each week. On there, the children can practise all of their times tables by playing different games. As you know, children will be tested on their tables in the summer term. Please continue to practise these as much as possible at home.

This week we have been working on writing diary entries. We have taken on the role of the wizard from our story and recounting the events of his day whilst thinking about how he felt in each moment. This week has been modelled wriitng so we have worked on this as a class and the children have then added their own ideas to their writing. All the children have really grasped the concept of diary writing and the features this involves.

Maths

Addition and subtraction

We have been focusing on subtraction and the use of part whole models this week. We have looked at tricky column subtraction that involves exchanging across two columns and using this method to answer worded questions. We have also looked at calculations with a missing number and worked on how we can use a part whole model to figure out what caluclation we need to do. There has been lots of problem solving this week and the children have shown resilience and determination when facing all the challenges.

Can you solve these column subtractions?

Safeguarding - morning routine

If you are dropping off your child at the classroom door / KS2 entrance door and need to pass a message on to a member of staff please do so by speaking to the staff member who monitors the door in the morning. If you need to enter school for any other reason, adults can only enter the school building via the main school entrance and seek assistance from the school office team. If you are attending a meeting with a member of staff, you must sign in at the front desk as a visitor and have an ID lanyard.

Safeguarding - home time routine

At the end of each day, Y4 will line up on the playground football pitch. Each child will be dismissed individually, only when a member of staff has seen the adult who is collecting. If they are signed up for OSC, the children will need to be collected from the front office, so OSC can sign in, and sign out, the children they are expecting.
If you need to speak with the class teacher at the end of the day, please allow them to dismiss the class first.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school and children safe.

Safety in PE

We would like to remind all parents that for the safety of all children and following guidance from Chorley SSP, jewellery is not to be worn during PE. This includes earrings, bracelets and watches. All children will be asked to remove their jewellery at the start of every PE lesson. This will ensure their own safety during the lesson and the safety of others. If a child is unable to take out their own earrings, adults in school will not be able to do it for them. This will mean they will have to take another role in the lesson such as observing, coaching or officiating.

For this reason, if your child is not confident taking out earrings, please do not put them in on our PE days. This year, our PE lessons are on Wednesday and Thursday, however we may also have extra lessons on other days throughout the year.
Thank you for your support in keeping our children safe.

We hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
