Year 4 Blog-23rd October
Date: 20th Oct 2026 @ 11:27am

Welcome to the Year 4 Friday blog!
This week was Mrs Wiles' final week with us before she begins her maternity leave. We would like to wish her and her family all the very best as they prepare to welcome their new arrival! We will miss having her in the classroom, but we are very excited for her at this special time.
Miss Haydock will now be taking over the class full time and is looking forward to continuing our learning journey together. She is excited for the weeks and months ahead and will continue to keep you updated on all the wonderful things happening in Year 4!
Half term wellbeing homework

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and times tables and lots more.
Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Remember to ask questions as this will improve key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. Children should also have their school reading books in school every day so that an adult can read with them.
Spellings - For our spelling quizzes this year, there will be a list of 10 words sent home to learn. These words will all follow a spelling rule that we are learning in class that week. Our spelling quiz will then take place on a Thursday, where children will be tested on those 10 words along with a mystery word from a previously taught week. This weeks words are listed below. You will also find the overview for the year on our Year 4 class page.

Times tables - Times tables are a vital skill, which will be used throughout the year and through the rest of the children's school journey and lives. In order to prepare every child as well as we can, we ask that children log in to times table rockstars as many days as possible each week. On there, the children can practise all of their times tables by playing different games. As you know, children will be tested on their tables in the summer term. Please continue to practise these as much as possible at home.

Roman day
To see what the children got up to on their roman day, have a look at our gallery on our class page. The children had a great day taking part in lots of activities based around their learning this half term. Thank you for all the parents who supported this with costumes.
English
The Loch Ness Monster
This week the children completed their modelled write and independent write. They have created their own articles all about the Loch Ness Monster. They have presented facts they have learned throughout the topic and debated whether the monster is fact or fiction. We are very impressed with the pieces they have created.
Maths
Can you answer these questions using column addition and subtraction?

We hope you all have a fantastic half term!
The year 4 team!
