Welcome to the Year 4 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and times tables and lots more.
Friday awards
Well done to all the chidren who have recieved awards this week!

Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Remember to ask questions as this will improve key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. Children should also have their school reading books in school every day so that an adult can read with them.
Wellbeing homework
Please see the files section on the class page to download a copy of the worksheet below.

Spellings - For our spelling quizzes this year, there will be a list of 10 words sent home to learn. These words will all follow a spelling rule that we are learning in class that week. Our spelling quiz will then take place on a Thursday, where children will be tested on those 10 words along with a mystery word from a previously taught week. This weeks words are listed below. You will also find the overview for the year on our Year 4 class page.

Times tables - Times tables are a vital skill, which will be used throughout the year and through the rest of the children's school journey and lives. In order to prepare every child as well as we can, we ask that children log in to times table rockstars as many days as possible each week. On there, the children can practise all of their times tables by playing different games. As you know, children will be tested on their tables in the summer term. Please continue to practise these as much as possible at home.

English

In English this week, Year 4 have been continuing with the guardians of Iceland folk tale and using this story as a way of exploring vocabulary, inference, letters and diaries. We have written a letter from ourselves to the King to advise him on what his next move should be. To do this we have needed to be very persuassive and carefully choose our language. These letters were fantastic to read! Well done year 4!
Maths
Addition and subtraction
This week we have been exploring more addition and subtraction by developing certain methods and strengthening our mental maths abilities. We have explored different methods of finding an answer and discussed how some people prefer to do it in different ways to ourselves. We have also started to explore perimeter and how we can use a perimeter to find missing lengths. This is a difficult subject that all the children have put in maximum effort to understand.
We hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
The year 4 team!
