Year 4 Blog-5th June
Date: 5th Jun 2026 @ 2:58pm

Welcome to the Year 4 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings and times tables and lots more.
The multiplication tables check will be taking place across next week. We will be starting the tests on Monday so your child should be prepared to be taking the test on any given day. We appreiate how hard the children have been working and have full faith that they will succeed next week!
Reading reminder
We would just like to remind parents about the importance of reading with your child. Reading regularly at home has a huge impact on children’s learning, helping to improve vocabulary, fluency, comprehension and confidence across all subjects. While all reading is valuable and encouraged, it is especially important that children are regularly reading their school reading book so they can continue to build confidence and progress through the book bands. Please also take time to talk to your child about what they have read by asking questions about characters, events, vocabulary and predictions, as this helps deepen their understanding and supports their progress in school.
Friday awards
Well done to all those who recieved awards this week!

Homework
Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Remember to ask questions as this will improve key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference. Children should also have their school reading books in school every day so that an adult can read with them.
Spellings - For our spelling quizzes this year, there will be a list of 10 words sent home to learn. These words will all follow a spelling rule that we are learning in class that week. Our spelling quiz will then take place on a Thursday, where children will be tested on those 10 words along with a mystery word from a previously taught week. This weeks words are listed below. You will also find the overview for the year on our Year 4 class page.

Times tables - Times tables are a vital skill, which will be used throughout the year and through the rest of the children's school journey and lives. In order to prepare every child as well as we can, we ask that children log in to times table rockstars as many days as possible each week. On there, the children can practise all of their times tables by playing different games. As you know, children will be tested on their tables in the summer term. Please continue to practise these as much as possible at home.

We have started our new book Jouney to Jo'burg. This week we have started to read our book, discussed some of the themes and explored the vocabulary used in the book. We look forward to continuing to read and add our own ideas to this story.
Maths
Fractions
We have been looking at fractions and how to work out a fraction of a shape. We have also explored equilvalent fractions and how to work out an equivalent fraction.
We hope you all have a fantastic half term!
The year 4 team!
