Spellings

This week's spellings are listed below. There are activities assigned on Spelling Shed for your children to complete based on our new spellings. The children are tested weekly on a Thursday.

Reading

We ask the children to read as much as possible as there are huge benefits to this within all areas of the curriculum. Children can bring their book back into school any day and they are able to change them independently.

Times tables

Please encourage your child to access their TT Rockstars account and complete tasks and challenges on the website to practice their times tables.

Science homework

This half term we are setting the children in year 5 a creative homework activity. The children are going to be creating a space themed masterpiece based on their learning within class. We are then going to show case these to all parents on Thursday 11th December at the end of the day in our school hall. It will be so lovely for every child to complete an activity based on Space.  The completed projects are to be brought into school from Monday 8th December. The children were very excited about this project and it will allow them to discuss their learning with parents at home as they create their homework. Below are examples of what the children might want to create.

English

This week in our English we have continued our work on Hidden Figures. The children have been focussing on the amazing work of Dorothy Vaughan. The children have explored the key events in her life and have created a road map of this. They have then planned and began to write their own biography of all the amazing things she did in her lifetime. The children have really enjoyed this and we are extremely proud of their writing.

Maths

This week we began out new topic on multiplication and division. The children have looked at multiples and factors and answered lots of reasoning and problem solving questions to deepen their understanding.

Science

This week, Year 5 were lucky to have the wonder dome come into school to talk to us all about Space. The children loved listening to all the interesting facts and sitting in the dome with all the planets and stars projected up above.

RE

In RE this week we have been revisiting our knowledge of the nativity story. We started off by writing down what we could remember, we then watched a video clip and used the Bible to find the story. Finally, we compared the gospel's of Matthew and Luke to identify similarities and differences within the stories.
