Year 5 Friday blog 27th March
Date: 26th Mar 2026 @ 10:01pm
Dear Parents,
Welcome to our weekly blog where you will find out about what we have been doing in class, homework and important updates.
Homework
RE
This week in RE, we have been exploring the big question: What did Jesus do to save human beings? The children examined key moments from the Easter story and reflected on a range of artwork inspired by these events.
To deepen their understanding, the class took part in a lively debate about who was responsible for the death of Jesus. It was fantastic to see them confidently using their oracy skills—sharing thoughtful ideas, listening to one another, and building on different viewpoints.

Geography
Year 5 have now completed their work on Florida and Alaska. We explored the biomes found in each of these states and considered the many reasons why people choose to live in—or visit—these very different environments. The children discussed the different climates, as well as the animals and plants that live in each location. They also shared their own preferences about where they would choose to live and explained their reasoning.
I was extremely impressed with the “Biomes in a Bottle” projects the children created to represent Florida and Alaska. I’m sure you’ll agree that they look absolutely fantastic!

Science
Our science topic this half term has been Living Things. The children have been learning about different animal groups and their life cycles. We then moved on to focus on plants—exploring what we already know, identifying the different parts of a plant, and studying the stages of a plant’s life cycle.
One of the highlights was dissecting a flower to identify each part up close.

Have a lovely Easter break !
Thank you
