Dear Parents,
Welcome to the Year 5 Friday blog!
Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, our weekly spellings, reminders and lots more!
A huge well done to our awards winners this week

This week was UK Parliament Week, which meant it was time for our school council elections again. A huge well done to everyone who gave a speech in front of the rest of the class, I'm sure it was a very tough decision for everyone to choose who to vote for. After the votes were counted, our two new school councillors will be Iona and Fox. Congratulations to you both and I'm sure you will represent our class brilliantly on this year's school council.
Science Space project
This half term we are setting the children in year 5 a creative homework activity. The children are going to be creating a space themed masterpiece based on their learning within class. We are then going to show case these to all parents on Thursday 11th December at the end of the day in our school hall. It will be so lovely for every child to complete an activity based on Space. The completed projects are to be brought into school from Monday 8th December. The children were very excited about this project and it will allow them to discuss their learning with parents at home as they create their homework. Below are examples of what the children might want to create.
Rainbow Raffle

Homework
This week's spellings are listed below. There are activities assigned on Spelling Shed for your children to complete based on our new spellings. The children are tested weekly on a Thursday.
Reading
We ask the children to read as much as possible as there are huge benefits to this within all areas of the curriculum. Children can bring their book back into school any day and they are able to change them independently.
Bikeability Success!
This week, Year 5 took part in Bikeability, and we could not be more proud of them. The children showed incredible resilience, determination, and a fantastic attitude throughout the two days of training. It was wonderful to see every child grow in confidence and develop their cycling skills.
All pupils will be coming home today with their certificate and badge to celebrate their achievement.
A huge well done to the whole of Year 5!

DT
This half term, our DT project is to plan, design, and make our own decorative stockings. This week, we have been exploring different stitches and practising them. The children have really enjoyed these lessons, and we are looking forward to seeing their designs come to life.
Have a lovely weekend!
