Dear Parents,

Thank you to everyone  who came to parents' evening this week, it was so lovely to chat and discuss the incredible progress your children have made this year.

World book day 2026

Year 5 had a fantastic day yesterday celebrating World Book Day. The children took part in a range of book-themed activities, joined a live lesson focused on the joy and importance of reading, and enjoyed sharing stories with Year 2. Take a look at some of the exciting things we got up to throughout the day!

Year 5 class worship

Our upcoming assembly on Friday 13th March will be all about Mother’s Day. To help make the celebration extra special, we are inviting you to share a photo of your child with their mum or someone special to them, that you would be happy for us to include in the assembly. It is always a lovely opportunity for the children to see their special memories displayed and celebrated together.

If you have a photo you would like to share, please email it to [email protected]

Homework

This week's spellings are listed below. There are activities assigned on Spelling Shed for your children to complete based on our new spellings. The children are tested weekly on a Thursday.  Please do encourage your child to log on and practice these words.

Reading

We ask the children to read as much as possible as there are huge benefits to this within all areas of the curriculum. Children can bring their book back into school any day and they are able to change them independently.  Could you please encourage your children to read as much as possible and record this in their reading record.

TT Rockstars

Please encourage your child to access their TT Rockstars account and complete tasks and challenges on the website to practice their times tables.

English

This week in English, we have been exploring the next two chapters of our class text, The Explorer. We focused on the author’s use of descriptive language and discussed how short, sharp sentences are used to hook the reader’s attention. We were also introduced to the main characters, and we spent time examining their personalities and the clues the author gives us about who they are.

Maths

In Maths this week, we finished our unit on addition and subtraction and have now moved on to multiplication and division. We have been exploring multiples and factors, using practical resources to help us identify the factors of different numbers and deepen our understanding.
