Year 5 blog 12th June
Date: 11th Jun 2026 @ 9:38pm
Dear Parents,
Welcome to our weekly blog where you will find out about what we have been doing in class, homework and important updates.

A huge well done to our this weeks awards winners!
Project work

Last week, we introduced the Dragon’s Den project to the children. They have the exciting opportunity to create their own product and present it to a panel of judges.
Children can choose to work either independently or in pairs to complete this project. There is no expectation for them to spend any money. Instead, we ask that when presenting their product, they are able to clearly explain its purpose, outline how much funding they would need to make it successful, and describe how it would be made.
In previous years, children have used a variety of presentation methods, including PowerPoint presentations, flashcards, and posters, to support their pitches.
We will be presenting to the judges on Wednesday 24th June.
If you have any questions, please feel free to send an email and I will get back to you.
Homework
This week's spellings are listed below. There are activities assigned on Spelling Shed for your children to complete based on our new spellings. The children are tested weekly on a Thursday.
Reading
We ask the children to read as much as possible as there are huge benefits to this within all areas of the curriculum. Children can bring their book back into school any day and they are able to change them independently. Could you please encourage your children to read as much as possible and record this in their reading record.
TT Rockstars
Please encourage your child to access their TT Rockstars account and complete tasks and challenges on the website to practice their times tables.
English
This week in English, we have continued our work on The Invention of Hugo Cabret. The children read the next chapters, exploring how characters change and develop as we learn more about them.
Following this, the children wrote their own balanced arguments independently, considering whether Hugo should have been stealing toys from the toy booth. They used the key features of a balanced argument to present clear and well-structured viewpoints, showing great thought and understanding of both sides of the issue.
Maths
Geography
This week in Geography, we began by exploring the human and physical features of Blackpool. We then carried out research on key human attractions, finding out why they were created and when they were built. After this, we recorded our key facts in our books.
Finally, we compared why Blackpool is more popular than Chorley with tourists, considering the impact this popularity has had on the town.
