Homework

Reading

Reading is such an important skill that opens the door to all areas of learning. It not only helps children succeed across the curriculum but also sparks their imagination and strengthens their communication skills. You can support your child at home by enjoying books together, listening to them read aloud, and asking questions about the story. Even a few minutes of reading each day makes a real difference. Please ensure your child brings their book in everyday.

Spelling

For our spelling quizzes this year, there will be a list of 10 words sent home to learn. These words will all follow a spelling rule that we are learning in class that week. Our spelling quiz each Thursday will then consist of these 10  words as well as 10 words the children have previously learned. As homework, each child should  log into Spelling Shed and complete this weeks assignment using the link below.

Times tables

Times tables are key within all areas of maths, not just for multiplication. Pleae can you log on to TT Rockstars to continue working on all your times tables. If you are unable to log in please come and see me and I can sort this for you.

Our learning this week in Year 5

English

This week in English we have continued our work on The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. The children have been focussing on emotions of characters within different parts of the story. They have written in role creating emotive diary entries and recounts. Next week we will be looking at editing and redrafting our work with a focus on grammar and handwriting.

 Maths

In Year 5 this week we have continued to work on our unit of place value. The children have been ordering numbers from biggest to smallest and placed them correctly on a number line. We have started to round numbers to the nearest 10,100 and 1,000.

Science

In science we started our topic on materials. We had to use scientific vocabulary to describe different items to the class. We then worked in pairs to figure out the different materials being described. Can you identify the material that Mrs Ash has described?
