Dear Parents,

Welcome to our weekly blog where you will find out about what we have been doing in class, homework and important updates.

Thank you to all our family and friends for coming to support Year 5 at their Sports Day. The children did amazingly, and we are so proud of each and every one of them. They showed fantastic sportsmanship and supported one another brilliantly throughout the event.

Well done to Fire, who were the overall winners of the Year 5 Sports Day! Please keep an eye out for photos, which will be shared on our social media pages and gallery soon.

It has been a very busy and exciting week in school as we have been taking part in Mental Health Awareness Week.

On Monday, the children were introduced to Mental Health Bingo during our class worship session. Throughout the week, they have been working hard to complete different activities and challenges to achieve a line or even a full house on their bingo boards.

On Thursday, the whole school enjoyed getting active and keeping fit by joining the online Big School Workout with Joe Wicks. The children had lots of fun taking part in the exercises and learning about the importance of looking after both their physical and mental wellbeing.

Homework

This week's spellings are listed below. There are activities assigned on Spelling Shed for your children to complete based on our new spellings. The children are tested weekly on a Thursday.

Reading

We ask the children to read as much as possible as there are huge benefits to this within all areas of the curriculum. Children can bring their book back into school any day and they are able to change them independently.  Could you please encourage your children to read as much as possible and record this in their reading record.

TT Rockstars

Please encourage your child to access their TT Rockstars account and complete tasks and challenges on the website to practice their times tables.

English

This week in English, we have continued our work on The Invention of Hugo Cabret. The children have been introduced to more characters, and we have used our inference skills to explore the story in greater detail. We explored what happened to Hugo’s father and wrote recounts from the perspectives of different characters.

Maths

This week in Maths, we have been learning about volume. We used cubes to help us solve problems practically and explored how many layers and cubes were used in each question. We then looked at cubed numbers. The children did really well with this, as they used their times tables knowledge to help them.
