Dear Parents,
Welcome to the Year 5 weekly blog!
Each week, we will update this blog to keep you informed about what we have been learning in class, homework tasks, and any important reminders or updates.

Homework
This week's spellings are listed below. There are activities assigned on Spelling Shed for your children to complete based on our new spellings. The children are tested weekly on a Thursday. Children have been sent home with a copy of their username and password. If there are any issues, please do let me know.
Reading
We ask the children to read as much as possible as there are huge benefits to this within all areas of the curriculum. Children can bring their book back into school any day and they are able to change them independently. Could you please encourage your children to read as much as possible and record this in their reading record.
TT Rockstars
Please encourage your child to access their TT Rockstars account and complete tasks and challenges on the website to practice their times tables.
English
This week in English, we have continued exploring the story of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The children immersed themselves in the text by writing diary entries from the perspective of one of the characters, carefully considering their thoughts, feelings and experiences. They then applied a range of editing and proofreading techniques to improve and enhance their writing, focusing on improving vocabulary, sentence structure and descriptive detail. We have been particularly impressed by the way the children conveyed emotion through their writing.
Maths
This week in Maths, the children have continued developing their understanding of place value. We spent time revisiting and strengthening our knowledge of rounding numbers, exploring a range of strategies and rules to help us remember the steps involved. Through practical activities and problem-solving tasks, the children became increasingly confident in applying these skills accurately.
We were particularly impressed by the resilience and determination shown throughout the week.
