Year 5 blog 19th June
Date: 19th Jun 2026 @ 4:48pm
Dear Parents,
Welcome to our weekly blog where you will find out about what we have been doing in class, homework and important updates.

A huge well done to our this weeks awards winners!
Project work

The children have been introduced to the Dragon’s Den project. They have the exciting opportunity to create their own product and present it to a panel of judges.
Children can choose to work either independently or in pairs to complete this project. There is no expectation for them to spend any money. Instead, we ask that when presenting their product, they are able to clearly explain its purpose, outline how much funding they would need to make it successful, and describe how it would be made.
In previous years, children have used a variety of presentation methods, including PowerPoint presentations, flashcards, and posters, to support their pitches.
We will be presenting to the judges on Wednesday 24th June.
If you have any questions, please feel free to send an email and I will get back to you.
Wellbeing homework
This week we have been learning all about how to stay safe in and near waters as part of Drowning Prevention Week (13th-20th June).

Please see below an image of the work we completed at school
Trip to Blackpool
This week, Year 5 visited Blackpool Pleasure Beach for our school trip. The children began the day by exploring how the Pleasure Beach has changed over time, looking at how the rides have evolved and considering the impact this has had on tourism in Blackpool.
We then enjoyed a walk around the park, where the children used their knowledge from the first session to identify different rides and recognise various types of roller coasters.
To finish the day, the children took part in a teamwork challenge, where they were asked to design and create elements of their own roller coaster. They demonstrated fantastic teamwork throughout the activity, and we were incredibly proud of their problem-solving skills.
The children were outstanding all day and were a real credit to our school. Please take a look at our photo gallery to see highlights from the trip.

Homework
With this week and next week being assessment weeks, the children have not been tested on last week’s homework.
There will be no new spellings set this week. Instead, we will assess the children on Thursday using the spellings from last week (listed below).
Reading
We ask the children to read as much as possible as there are huge benefits to this within all areas of the curriculum. Children can bring their book back into school any day and they are able to change them independently. Could you please encourage your children to read as much as possible and record this in their reading record.
TT Rockstars
Please encourage your child to access their TT Rockstars account and complete tasks and challenges on the website to practice their times tables.
