Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Year 5 weekly blog!

What a fantastic week of learning and experience's we have had in Year 5!

Homework

Spelling

Listed below are the spellings for the week. Each week I set assignments on Spelling shed for the children to complete. They will be tested every Thursday in class.

Reading

We ask the children to read as much as possible as there are huge benefits to this within all areas of the curriculum. Children can bring their book back into school any day and we will change it for them.

English

This week has been oracy week at Euxton and we started the week by looking at what Oracy was and how we can use this in all of our lessons. We then looked at the importance of listening and created a set of rules we would follow as a class when someone was speaking. This week was also national poetry day and the children absolutely loved learning our poem, Gran can you rap? By Jack Ousby. We created actions for our poem and focused on our tone and volume. On Friday we were able to perform our poem to Year 3, we were extremely proud of how hard the children had worked at learning the poem and being able to recite the different verses.

Maths

In maths this week, year 5 have been focussing on addition and subtraction. We looked at whole numbers and decimal numbers with a real focus on  reasoning and being able to explain how we have reached a specific answer.

Can you answer one of the extension questions we had this week?

PALS training

This week, Year 5 got to take part in some Play ground activity leaders training. The children spent the first part of the morning exploring what a playground leader was and how they could support the younger children at our school. The children then had to get into groups to plan an activity or game they would deliver to the children within our school. Finally, the children were able to practice and perfect their game with their peers before starting their roles in the coming weeks.
