Reading

We ask the children to read as much as possible as there are huge benefits to this within all areas of the curriculum. Children can bring their book back into school any day and they are able to change them independently.

Times tables

Please encourage your child to access their TT Rockstars account and complete tasks and challenges on the website to practice their times tables.

English

This week in English we have started our new class text: Hidden figures. The children have explored the first few pages of the text and have completed a range of different activities to really understand the story. The children then looked at the story of Dorothy Vaughan and explored her thoughts and feelings within the story. The children then had to write in role, creating a diary entry with a focus on a character’s feelings.

Maths

In maths this week we have started our new topic on geometry and measures. The children have showed incredible resilience and determination when completing this unit as there have been lots of working out to solve an answer.

Science

This week Year 5 have started their new topic on Earth and Space. They have absolutly loved it and we have enjoyed seeing the children so excited about their learning. Lots of children have brought in their own books from home to share with the class.

In our science lesson this week we focussed on the Sun, Moon and Earth. We explored the different sizes of each of them. We were shocked how small the Earth was compared to the Sun. The children then took part in a debate exploring the idea that the Earth was flat. They had to work in pairs to explore a specific idea and then share this with a group. The children did really well with this, giving some very detailed responses.

Children in Need
Friday 14th November is Children in Need day and our school council have decided that this year, we will be doing a cake sale!

If you are able to donate some cakes, they can be brought in to school on Thursday and Friday and our school council will be selling them after school on Friday. If you would like to purchase a cake to support Children in Need, please bring some money at the end of the day on Friday.

Have a lovely weekend
