Dear Parents,
Welcome to our weekly blog where you will find out about what we have been doing in class, homework and important updates.

A huge well done to our award winners this week, we are VERY proud of how hard they have worked.
Homework
This week's spellings are listed below. There are activities assigned on Spelling Shed for your children to complete based on our new spellings. The children are tested weekly on a Thursday. Please do encourage your child to log on and practice these words.

Reading
We ask the children to read as much as possible as there are huge benefits to this within all areas of the curriculum. Children can bring their book back into school any day and they are able to change them independently. Could you please encourage your children to read as much as possible and record this in their reading record.
Times tables
Please encourage your child to access their TT Rockstars account and complete tasks and challenges on the website to practice their times tables.

We are now proud to be a 'My Happy Mind' school. Throughout the year groups, we have been using My Happy Mind to learn about our brains and how they help us to regulate our emotions. Each Monday the children complete a section of their journal, reflecting on their strengths and character. We have been meeting lots of fun characters along the way, used Happy Breathing techniques and sang some catchy songs.
Inside the front cover of your child's reading record book, you will find a QR code and password to access these fantastic resources at home.

Maths
This week, we have continued our work on fractions. The children have been learning how to compare and order fractions, and together we created a set of instructions to help us answer these types of questions. The children showed incredible resilience during these lessons; some of the questions were quite tricky, but they worked extremely hard and persevered to find the correct answers.
English
This week, we started our new class text, The Boy at the Back of the Class. The children were given a number of clues and used inference to predict what the story might be about. We then explored what life was like in Syria before and after the war and considered the experiences of children who have lived through this. Finally, we discussed how it might feel to start at a new school and what we can do to make sure anyone new to our school feels welcome and part of our school family.
RE
This week in RE, it has been Multi-Faith Week. As a class, we have been focusing on Islam. The children have taken part in a range of activities to learn all about this fascinating religion. They created posters about the Five Pillars of Islam, designed their own prayer mats, explored the similarities and differences between a mosque and a church, and learned how Muslims follow their beliefs in everyday life.
