Dear parents

WELCOME TO THE YEAR 5 BLOG GIF.gif

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.

Every Friday, the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework. Moving to online homework has allowed us to become a more eco friendly school. Throughout the week we will be learning about the spelling rule in preparation for the quiz on Thursday. Spelling frame can be used for practise along with the spelling strategies shared on the blog below.

Discovering : Our Half-Term Spotlight 🌍

This half-term, we're excited to learn all about our spotlight country Romania! Each week, we’ll share a fun fact about this amazing country. Children may want to get involved at home. If you find out something interesting about Romania, bring that information into school.

                                                                         Chamois     Brown bear

The varied Romanian landscape with many valleys and rich meadows and forests especially the Carpathian Mountains and the Danube Delta provide a habitat for many wild animals amongst them the brown bear, the European lynx, the grey wolf, the Danube water snake  and the chamois, a mountain goat.

Even the European bison has been reintroduced in Romania.

Crafting a Myth: This Week in English

This week, the children have been inspired by the fascinating myths we've read! 🌌✍️ The children have begun planning the plot for their very own myth, drawing on the themes and characters that captivated them.

They are brainstorming exciting heroes, magical creatures, and thrilling adventures, all while thinking about the important lessons these stories can teach. 📖💡

🧮 This Week in Maths: Mixed Numbers, Improper Fractions, and Percentages! 📊

This week in maths, the children have been busy learning about mixed numbers and improper fractions! They’ve been practising how to convert between these two forms with great enthusiasm. 📚

We also explored multiplying proper fractions by whole numbers. Everyone enjoyed figuring out answers that were greater than or less than 1! ✨

Next, we introduced percentages! The children can now recognise the per cent symbol (%) and understand that “per cent” means parts out of 100. They  learnt how to write percentages as fractions and decimals. 💡

Exploring Blackpool: A Geography Adventure for Our Young Learners 🏖️🌊

This week in Geography, the children explored the fun seaside town of Blackpool. Let’s share what they discovered about this vibrant location!

A Natural Marvel: The Sand Dunes 🌾

One natural feature that attracts tourists to Blackpool is the beautiful sand dunes. These soft hills of sand are not only pretty but also protect the coast from erosion and provide homes for wildlife.

The Importance of Sand Dunes 🐦

But why are sand dunes so important? They act as natural shields against strong winds and waves, helping to keep the beach safe. Our students enjoyed spotting different creatures that live in the dunes!

The Fun of Blackpool's Promenade 🚶‍♂️🎡

Walking along Blackpool's busy promenade is a must for anyone visiting. It is filled with fun activities, from tasty fish and chips to exciting rides. There’s something for everyone!

Coastal Cliffs: Nature's Guardians 🏞️

Our exploration also covered coastal cliffs. These tall formations provide stunning views and protect the land from waves. Our students learned how important they are for keeping Blackpool’s coastline safe.

Combining Nature with Fun: The Pleasure Beach 🎢🎠

Lastly, we talked about the famous Pleasure Beach. This amusement park mixes thrilling rides with natural beauty, showing how fun and nature can go together!

Exploring Daniel's Choices and Kosher Meals in RE 🌟

This week in RE, the children continued to explore the story of Daniel (Daniel 1:8-16) and discussed why he refused to eat the royal food. Was Daniel right to take this action? The children shared their thoughts and learned about the importance of standing up for what you believe in. 🙌

We also looked at Judaism and the rules in Leviticus, which guide Jewish life. To bring it all together, the children were challenged to create their own Kosher meals! 🍽️✨

Support Services for Safeguarding Children

Safeguarding - morning routine

If you are dropping off your child at the classroom door / KS2 entrance door and need to pass a message on to a member of staff please do so by speaking to the staff member who monitors the door in the morning.
If you need to enter school for any other reason, adults can only enter the school building via the main school entrance and seek assistance from the school office team. If you are attending a meeting with a member of staff you must sign in at the front desk as a visitor and have an ID lanyard.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school and children safe.
