Dear parents

WELCOME TO THE YEAR 5 BLOG GIF.gif

Each week you will find out what we have been doing in class, weekly spellings / times tables and lots more.

Every Friday, the blog will be shared with the class to recap our learning and make them aware of their homework. Moving to online homework has allowed us to become a more eco friendly school. Throughout the week we will be learning about the spelling rule in preparation for the quiz on Thursday. Spelling frame can be used for practise along with the spelling strategies shared on the blog below.

Reedley Primary School: Homework

Reading - Reading is one of the most important skills for children to master as it unlocks their imagination and allows them to access the rest of the curriculum. Please read with your child every night. Question prompts are provided within reading records asking questions improves key reading skills, such as retrieval and inference.

Spellings - Please note: There are no new spellings to learn! Instead, we will have a fun quiz on the spellings we've already covered. It’s a great chance to show what you’ve learnt! 🌟

We encourage you to review past spellings. A little practice can go a long way! You might challenge each other with flashcards or use the words in sentences. Learning can be fun!

I will be keeping track of all children logging into both Spelling Frame and TT Rockstars. I recommend 10 minutes, every night, on each of the websites.

Creating Myths: A Week of Creativity in English!

This week, our classroom has been buzzing with creativity as the children wrote their own myths! 📜✨

From brave heroes to magical creatures, the children used their imaginations to tell exciting stories. Each child crafted their own unique myth, showcasing their ideas and writing skills.

After writing, they worked together to edit their stories, learning how to improve their work. This important step helped them understand the value of revising their writing. ✍️

Their hard work resulted in a wonderful new original book of myths in the class library! 📚❤️

🔍 Understanding Fractions:

✏️ Exploring 10s and 25s:
They also looked at fractions with denominators that are multiples of 10 and 25, like 2/5, 3/5, and 4/5, while gaining confidence in their skills!

📈 Solving Percentage Problems:
The children had fun solving a variety of percentage problems.

We are thrilled with their progress and encourage you to keep supporting them at home!

This Week in RE: The Book of Daniel 🌟

This week in RE, we explored the book of Daniel. 📖 The children recapped the story and discussed how Daniel and his friends had their names changed by King Nebuchadnezzar. This led to a conversation about the importance of our names and how it might feel to have our names altered.

We also talked about our own talents, inspired by Daniel's gift of interpreting dreams. 🌍✨ Each child shared their unique strengths and how they can use them to help others.

Finally, we chatted about the difference between wisdom and advice. What does wisdom mean to us?

Support Services for Safeguarding Children

Safeguarding - morning routine

If you are dropping off your child at the classroom door / KS2 entrance door and need to pass a message on to a member of staff please do so by speaking to the staff member who monitors the door in the morning.
If you need to enter school for any other reason, adults can only enter the school building via the main school entrance and seek assistance from the school office team. If you are attending a meeting with a member of staff you must sign in at the front desk as a visitor and have an ID lanyard.

To ensure the safetyof all children, we would like to remind everyone of our end of day proceedure.

If you need to speak with the class teacher at the end of the day, please allow them to dismiss the class first.
